As summer arrives, many people start putting pressure on themselves. Lose the weight. Get in shape. Get organized. Fix everything. Start over.
But after 60 years, I’ve learned something important: The people who age best aren’t the people who make the biggest changes. They’re the people who make the smallest changes consistently.
A 10-minute walk. A better breakfast. One less hour scrolling. One more glass of water. One more conversation with someone they love. One more workout. Momentum beats motivation every single time.
And honestly? That’s exactly how I approach fitness. People often ask me what workout program I’m following. They’re usually expecting some complicated answer. The truth is much simpler. I focus on moving my body consistently, building strength, doing things I enjoy, and creating habits that support the life I want to live.
At 60, my goal isn’t to look good for a vacation. My goal is to stay strong enough to dance, travel, play with my granddaughter, run events, help others, and continue living life on my terms.
Here’s what that looks like in real life.
Monday: Dig In – Chest Day (alternates with Back Day weekly)
Mondays are all about strength. I start the week with chest training using BODi’s Dig Deeper program.
As we age, strength training becomes increasingly important. Maintaining muscle helps support metabolism, bone density, posture, balance, and overall health. I don’t train to be a bodybuilder.
I train so I can continue carrying groceries, lifting my granddaughter, helping friends move furniture, and staying independent for decades to come.
Tuesday: Dig In – Back Day (alternates with Chest Day weekly)
Tuesday focuses on my back. Strong back muscles help support posture, reduce aches and pains, and counteract the effects of sitting at desks, driving, and looking down at phones. A strong back isn’t just about appearance. It’s about moving through life with confidence.
Wednesday: Dig In – Legs, Glutes, and/or Arms
If there is one area I encourage everyone to prioritize as they age, it’s lower body strength. Strong legs and glutes help us get off the floor, climb stairs, maintain balance, and continue doing the activities we love.
But Wednesdays also include another workout that’s not listed in any fitness program. Babysitting my 15-month-old granddaughter, Valentina. If you’ve ever chased a toddler, squatted down to pick up toys fifty times, carried a little one on your hip, danced around the living room, and explored the world through a child’s eyes, then you know exactly what I mean.
That little girl keeps me moving. And honestly, I wouldn’t trade that workout for anything.
Thursday: Ballroom Dance and Line Dance Teaching
Thursday is where fitness becomes pure joy. I teach ballroom dance and line dance, and it’s one of my favorite ways to stay active. Dance improves balance, coordination, memory, cardiovascular fitness, and social connection. More importantly, it’s fun.
One of the biggest secrets to long-term fitness is finding movement you genuinely enjoy. People stick with things that bring them happiness. That’s why dance has always been such an important part of my life.
Friday: Ab Ripper and Yoga
Friday is dedicated to core strength and recovery. A strong core supports everything from balance and posture to everyday movement. Yoga reminds me that fitness isn’t always about pushing harder.
Sometimes it’s about slowing down. Breathing. Stretching. Recovering.
Listening to your body. The older I get, the more I appreciate the importance of recovery.
Saturday: Life in Motion
Many Saturdays are spent organizing rallies, volunteering, attending community events, and supporting causes I care deeply about. That means a lot of walking, standing, carrying equipment, talking with people, and staying active throughout the day. I volunteer for Voice of Iran WA, Seattle Thrillers and JINA Alliance.
Fitness doesn’t only happen inside a gym. An active life is part of being healthy.
Sunday: Rest
Sunday is my day to recharge. No workouts. No guilt. No pressure. Just rest.
Rest isn’t the opposite of progress. Rest is part of progress.

The Healthitude Approach
While I love great workout programs, Healthitude has always been about much more than exercise. It’s about creating a lifestyle that supports health, happiness, longevity, and purpose.
That’s why I focus on:
• Strength training for healthy aging
• Nutrition that fuels your body
• Dance and joyful movement
• Mobility and flexibility
• Stress management
• Meaningful relationships
• Lifelong learning
• Living fully at every age
Because fitness isn’t about looking perfect. It’s about creating a life you love. A life where you can travel.
Play with your grandchildren. Dance at weddings. Take adventures. Volunteer for causes that matter. And continue doing the things that bring you joy for decades to come. So this summer, don’t worry about being perfect.
Don’t wait for motivation. Start with one small action. Take a walk. Drink more water. Lift some weights. Try a dance class. Eat a healthy meal. Call a friend. Because the people who age best aren’t the ones who make dramatic changes. They’re the ones who keep showing up. One day. One choice. One step at a time.
That’s how momentum is built. And momentum changes everything.
