I Accidentally Invented Grandbaby CrossFit 😂

I Accidentally Invented Grandbaby CrossFit 😂

One toddler. Four floor levels. Welcome to functional fitness.

My daughter, Kat, informed me recently that I apparently perform a Turkish get-up with a 20-pound wiggly little girl. And now I feel like this should be listed on my fitness résumé. 😂

Here’s what happens.

I sit on the floor with my granddaughter all the time because that’s where the good stuff happens (toys, books, crawling around, general Bibi chaos). Around here, I’m Bibi… Persian for Grandma, but apparently also toddler chauffeur, human jungle gym, and personal stair-climbing service. (Bibi is a Persian term of affection and respect often used for a grandmother or beloved older woman.)

Eventually, she decides she is DONE with whatever we are doing and wants to go somewhere else. Usually downstairs. Or more downstairs (she signs in ASL “more” and then points downstairs).

Now, most people have stairs. I have a stair problem. I have three floors in my house… PLUS another level that goes down into my office.

Apparently when I bought this house, and then added on, I thought, You know what would be fun when I’m older? CLIMBING.

So Little Miss Twenty Pounds announces, in the very clear nonverbal language of toddlers: BIBI. WE GO. NOW.

I scoop her up in one arm. She wiggles. She leans backward. She suddenly reaches for something completely unrelated to our current mission. Her center of gravity changes approximately every 1.7 seconds.

And then, from sitting on the floor, I stand up while holding her.

Kat watched me do this and said: “Mom, you realize you’re basically doing a Turkish get-up with a 20-pound wiggly weight?”

Well. When you say it like THAT… I sound incredibly athletic. 😂

Forget kettlebells. I have Grandbaby Functional Fitness. Pick up unpredictable weight. Stand from floor. Maintain balance. Navigate stairs. Avoid toys. Do not drop grandchild.

Repeat. Repeat. REPEAT!

And THAT, my friends, is why my definition of fitness has changed. I still want to look good. I still want muscles. I still want energy.

But more than anything, I want to keep being able to sit on the floor with that little girl… and then get myself (and her) back up again.

Because the body I want at 80? I’m building it right now.

And that’s really the point of my workouts. I’m not spending time in the gym because I want to become really good at squats and lunges. 😂 I’m doing them because I want the strength I build there to show up when I need it… in my house, on my stairs, on vacation, paddleboarding, dancing, carrying groceries, and apparently performing one-armed Turkish get-ups with a 20-pound grandbaby who has absolutely no concern for my center of gravity.

My workout facilitates my life. That’s what I want for you, too. I want you strong enough to do the things you love, go the places you want to go, and say YES to adventures instead of wondering whether your body can handle them.

And honestly, BODi is a huge part of how I do that. I don’t just open the app when I want a workout. I use it all the time. I use the meal plans. I use the Mindset classes. I do yoga, strength training, cycling/pedaling classes, stretching and meditation. I use the complete workout programs when I want someone else to tell me exactly what to do, and I can choose from literally thousands of highly rated workouts when I just want to move.

Some days I want to lift heavy. Some days I need yoga. Some days I need ten minutes of meditation and someone to help me get my head screwed back on straight. 😂 It’s all there.

That’s why I always tell people that BODi is basically a fitness facility inside an app. Except I don’t have to drive there, worry about what I’m wearing, figure out whether there’s a class I like at a time I can make it, or stand around wondering what exercise I’m supposed to do next. I can take it with me when I travel, pull it up in my gym, use it in my living room, or decide at the last minute that today is going to be yoga instead of weights. I use some part of it practically every day, and after all these years, I still find new things in there.

So when I saw the deal they are offering right now, my first thought was “I want my friends to have this opportunity at this amazing price!”

I don’t want you to miss this deal, so I’m telling you about it now.

Right now you can get an entire year of BODi for $99 instead of the usual $179, plus free Shakeology. That’s roughly $250 in value for $99. For something I genuinely use over and over and over again, I think that is an incredible deal.

And the timing makes it even more fun, because my next group is MAX BUILT, opening September 1. We’ll start together, finish together, and spend nine weeks getting stronger with actual people there to encourage each other along the way. I love that part, because sometimes the difference between doing the workout and deciding the couch looks awfully comfortable is simply knowing that your friends are doing it too.

I want us strong. I want us mobile. I want us still traveling, dancing, playing with grandkids and getting ourselves off the floor years from now. That’s why I’m sharing this one. It isn’t about spending your life working out. It’s about using your workout to make the rest of your life possible.

And in my case, apparently, to remain properly conditioned for Grandbaby CrossFit. 😂

Bibi, we go NOW.” ….gotta go… 😂
